Armenia with Van Insurance

Armenia is a republic in southwest Asia of which Yerevan is the capital. It is a landlocked country once part of the former Soviet Union.

In the early 1990’s Amenians in Karabakh began fighting for independence from Azebraijan. They won the war but no diplomatic ends were reached. There has been a ceasefire since 1994 with only a few minor exceptions.

Following the confrontations Armenia had rail and air blockades set against them and as 85% of cargo arrived via rail links the economy was severely crushed. Turkey also followed suit with blockades in 1993.

Travelling around the country is fairly safe. Public transport is good though trains to be a little uncomfortable. City travel is normally undertaken by bus or mini-bus. It is a lot easier, if travelling with heavy bags and cases, to hire a taxi. Cars can be rented but unless drivers are used to driving cars outside Europe it can be a dangerous exercise with livestock and potholes causing problems plus the fact that local drivers rarely take notice of road markings.

English is beginning to be spoken along with Russian and of course Armenian.
